Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they added.
Police then located multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials state early analysis indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important official commented the incident made him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
