Diving into a Bizarre Steam Demo: Guiding a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have discovered a variety of entertaining indie games. Yet, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game features a hero that is literally a piece of poop striving to navigate to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: just use a jump control. Across numerous levels, encounter tough enemies and access a market to buy customizations for your dung hero.
Time your movements with caution, since one mistake means beginning again. Jump off bubbles to launch the poop upward, traverse disappearing platforms, and activate switches to open secret routes. Gather UN-KOINS and use them on more difficult game content as things gets crazy.
Visually, the demo shows off neon environments and an amazing music score. The simple graphics of shifting basic polygons evokes memories of gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.
Even though hard to name previous releases where you play as a coiled turd, interactive entertainment frequently featured scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can create grenades from protagonist droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as plant food. Unsurprisingly, such content appears heavily in the adventure The Stick of Truth.
Despite its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already received significant accolades, including being named best at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is accessible now on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to debut on computers on November 19.
