Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51M Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The nail-biting 11-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total 51 million watchers in the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB reported this is the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a 16% improvement over the last finale featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game recorded 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-game World Series averaged 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total US viewership reached over 16 million. The overall World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and the network’s best postseason performance since 2017.

MLB announced that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
