Patriots Match Best Winning Streak Since Brady Era with Win Against New York Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has scored five TDs in the present year
New England tied their longest winning run since the Brady era as they defeated AFC East opponents the New York Jets by 13 points in professional football
Rookie Henderson was the standout with three touchdowns as the New England squad notched an eighth straight win for the first time since legendary quarterback Tom Brady's final season with the franchise in 2019
Signal-caller Maye passed for 281 yards and a score, completing 25 out of 34 attempts
The triumph increases the Patriots lead at the summit of the division as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York at the foot after slipping to two wins and eight losses
The opposing team had gone in front at their home field with quarterback Justin Fields rushing for a short rushing score to conclude the Jets' opening drive
But the Patriots fought back in the second period as Henderson ran in two seven-yard TDs before the ball carrier grabbed a reception from Maye at the back of the end zone in the middle of the third period to make it 21 to 7
"That was a crucial moment for him delivering, and it's been great for him to keep earning playing time," Maye said of the rookie. "He wants to be outstanding."
Justin Fields threw to John Metchie toward the end of the third quarter to reduce the lead for the visitors but Borregales converted a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots wrapped up the triumph
