The buzz surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction implies that the team is likely crafting a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
