US Forces Struck a 'Big Plant' in Venezuela, Trump Stated Without Providing Details.

Former President Trump has asserted that US forces targeted a "major installation" in the South American country last week. Yet, the former president offered no details on the exact nature or site of the target, and there has been no additional comment from his camp.

Unspecific Comments Made During a Radio Interview

"We just destroyed – I don't know if you read – they have a big plant, where the ships depart from. Recently, we knocked that out. So we targeted them with significant force," Trump allegedly said to Republican donor and businessman John Catsimatidis on Friday.

Possible Implications of a Confirmed Attack

If a US military action were to be confirmed, it would represent the initial land strike since the Pentagon initiated a expansion of US military presence in the region to halt drug traffickers that the Trump administration asserts operate under the orders of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

This initial objective of the military buildup has since morphed into a blockade aimed at hindering the nation's oil exports.

Social Media Video and Administration Statements

Trump has for weeks stated that US forces are prepared to escalate the operations by hitting targets inside Venezuela, a move that would theoretically require congressional authorization.

Online video circulated on social media on 24 December appeared to show an detonation reportedly from an industrial zone in Zulia state. However, the footage or the facility has not been independently verified.

An administration official reportedly informed a news network that the former president was referring to a narco-trafficking site in his remarks.

Reaction and Current Military Situation

The Caracas administration has not commented on the alleged strike Trump referenced. Additionally, there have been no corroborating news from Venezuela about it.

The presence of US military in the area – a stance some have called a maritime "quarantine" – represents the largest naval operation of Trump's presidency.

Officials have stopped short from describing the action as a full blockade, but have stated that about 15,000 personnel are deployed across the Caribbean and the Gulf, including a aircraft carrier group, advanced fighter jets, and law enforcement vessels to implement existing economic sanctions.
